Hon Philip Dalidakis Officially Opens The Sidekicker Melbourne Office
January 22, 2020
It was with great pleasure that we welcomed the honourable Philip Dalidakis, Minister of Small Business, Innovation & Trade for the Victorian Government to officially open our Melbourne headquarters on the 4th February.
The last year has been an amazing journey for the Sidekicker team as we combine world class technology with real world operations to build the best platform to connect businesses with staff on an hourly basis. It is our view that businesses need a better way to manage their temporary and casual staffing needs.
They should be able to run core lean teams and then pull in the additional resources they need only when they need them.
For workers we believe they should have greater control to choose what jobs they complete. From their iPhone they are able to view available shifts or assignments and apply for the ones they like.
I am excited about the future of work in Australia and I wanted to share with you the speech that I gave on the day of our office opening event.
“First of all I want to thank the minister for his attendance today and his government’s continued support of small businesses and startups with initiatives like the $60million Startup fund that help support local home-grown businesses as well as creating new jobs as more and more leading startups call Melbourne home.
Whilst everyone knows we are the world’s most liveable city, home to amazing cafes and the MCG, many overlook the success our startup sector has had. We have produced the likes of Seek, REA, Car Sales all belonging to the unicorn club and more recently 99designs, vinomofo and of course Sidekicker. We have vibrant co working spaces like the Hub, Inspire9 and York Butter Factory and world leading companies such as Zendesk, Slack & Gopro are calling Melbourne home and with continued support of the Victorian government I can’t wait to see what we achieve together as a state.
I want to also thank all our friends, customers, partners, shareholders and of course the 2,000 + Sidekicks who we are building this for. I must make special mention to our team, we are building something very special together and i could not think of better people to be doing this. Whilst we have a young team I am constantly blown away by the talent, passion and innovation you bring to work everyday.
As part of the exciting tech and startup ecosystem in Melbourne, we are eager to help improve the state’s prosperity by offering more job opportunities, with greater flexibility, choice and control over when and where to work.
At this important time in our journey I wanted to share with you how far we have cone in the last 12 months and how far we will go this year.
This is who we work for, what drives every decision, the Sidekick community. We work hard to drive up their average earnings, to provide them with experience with amazing companies, in January Sidekicks worked with the likes of Uber, Airbnb, Sofi Spritz, Blakes Feast, the Sofitel and many more.
Giving them valuable experience, amazing work conditions and a chance to earn income on their terms. By doing this the end result is a better outcome for business, as they have direct access to engaged and accountable workers, faster access to the talent they need when they need them and the ability to manage their costs in this increasingly unstable environment”.
We would like to thank everyone that has supported us, especially our clients and friends that came along for the big day. We can’t wait to see where this journey will take us and appreciate all your support.
