Meet Adventure Lover, Aspiring CEO and Sidekick Katherine

23rd Jun, 2020 | Sidekicker Updates

Our Sidekick community is made up of people from all walks of life. Their backgrounds, their passions and their stories are part of what makes them so good at what they do. Katherine is a Brisbane based Sidekick and student with a passion for travel. An aspiring CEO and skier – read her story here!

Where were you working before you started Sidekicking?

I had a casual catering job, which was great but harder to fit around a busy student lifestyle! When I heard about Sidekicker it sounded much more suited to me at this moment in time!

Tell us something unique about yourself

I’m actually a British student living here in Australia for one year, so I’ve been doing as much travelling around this side of the globe as possible! I have just returned from travelling around New Zealand and Fiji which was incredible.

Unfortunately I haven’t found that Aussie Lifeguard hunk my friends were banking on me bringing back though…

What was your first Sidekicking gig?

It was an Ashes Cricket Match at the Gabba – great atmosphere and really fun environment to work in. Not so great for the England team though!

Coolest thing you’ve done at Sidekicker?

Nathan Sharpe’s (Australian Rugby Player) 40th private birthday party at his house with other rugby players and radio djs in attendance. They really enjoyed my customer service and got me involved in their fancy dress! It hardly felt like ‘work’ when making cocktails and dancing was part of the criteria!

What was your first job?

I worked in a retail store called Primark back in the UK on the customer service desk (hectic).

What do you hope to do in the future?

I’d like to manage a company where I’m passionate about the product/service and where I get to interact and meet new people on a regular basis. Or a professional skier, either or.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

I have always wanted to have a positive influence on people – so a teacher.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone who wants to be a Sidekick?

Walk into every shift as your confident self and be willing to go that extra mile for customers. The effort that you put in will be returned in your favour.

Why do you love what you do?

I get to apply and work for a huge variety of jobs, where no two shifts are the same! I get to meet loads of new people, but I also have the option of applying to the same roles again if I really liked that particular shift. The work is really fun and I find it really rewarding seeing my customers appreciate the work I do.
