Our ‘Love What You Do’ series is a collection of interviews with the Sidekicks who make up our casual workforce, and the Sidekicker HQ staff who support them
Holly Foster is our Melbourne Customer Success Manager who comes to Sidekicker via Hitwise and the UK.
Her job is all about making our clients happy.
What Was Life Like Before Sidekicker?
I grew up in Nottingham in the UK and moved to Leeds to study Psychology. When I finished uni I left to travel around Asia. I ended up in Melbourne and decided it was somewhere I was supposed to stay. Everything (except the weather) here is perfect.
Where Were You Working Previously?
When I first arrived here I took all the random hospitality jobs I could (I really wish I’d known about Sidekicker, it would have made life so much easier.) Eventually, I landed a role at Experian. I learned that I loved customer service, but hated corporate red tape.
What Did You Want To Be When You Were Younger?
I was always so excited to grow up and become a Vet until I realised that my allergy to cats and horses would make that pretty difficult.
How Did You Arrive At Sidekicker?
I was approached by the founders through LinkedIn. One of their bigger partners was a client of ours at the time, so I knew they were at the forefront of tech and digital marketing. After a chat with them on the phone (and some snooping around through mutual friends) I knew it was the perfect opportunity for me.
What’s Something Different About You?
I love to run. Half-marathons, marathons, or just a quick jog. Any time I can pull on my shoes and take off for a few hours I am happy. I also love trying to make new vegetarian recipes or visiting new restaurants.
What Was Your First Job?
I started working in a Sandwich Shop when I was 13 – making sandwiches and manning the till. I guess you could say I’ve been a hard worker since day 1.
What do you hope to do in the future?
I’d love to lead a Customer Success Team. I love working to get the best out of people- using my psych training to engage and empower them.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone who wants to work in a startup?
Learn to go with the flow – embracing change and being flexible is one of life’s best lessons.
Why Do You Love What You Do?
I’m pretty nosy, so I love meeting people in a wide range of industries and learning how they operate. Working with people to get the best outcome for their business is so rewarding.
Why Do You Love Sidekicker?
THE OFFICE DOGS! But also the people. Everyone is so friendly – everyone’s willing to get their hands dirty and help out. It’s so refreshing to come to such a functional and efficient workplace where everyone gets on.
