Love What You Do – Charlotte Durber

Where Were You Working Before Sidekicker?

I was in Communications for BHP and then Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Hyatt Regency Perth (as well as Hyatt New Orleans) After a couple of years with Hyatt, I felt I needed a completely different direction in my life, so I’m about to start a Bachelor of Science (Nursing).

When I left my last job I started Sidekicking because it seemed like a great way for me to work casually across a variety of fields- then I found the role in the Perth Sidekicker Office and something just clicked.

Tell Us Something Unique About Yourself

I love to travel, stay fit and give back. I’ve lived in the US and Germany twice each and have traveled all over the world. I’ve really become interested in boxing and Muay Thai and have competed in bodybuilding competitions. I also volunteer as a Community Transport Officer with St John Ambulance WA.

How Did You Land Your Job At Sidekicker?

By working with Sachee at Sidekicker Perth! I signed up as a Sidekick last year. My first job was helping Sachee in the office and calling up potential Sidekicks to book them in for onboarding sessions. After a couple of weeks of helping out around the office and completing other Sidekicker shifts, Sachee offered me a casual role as Customer Success Manager for WA.

What Did You Want To Be When You Were Younger?

I wanted to be a tornado chaser… until I realised I was scared of loud noises!

Coolest Thing You’ve Done On A Sidekicker Shift?

I was an event assistant at the Women in Leadership Summit held at Pan Pacific Perth. I basically got to spend the day listening to speeches given by super inspiring women! I was also a bartender at Fraser’s Restaurant recently for a cocktail function where there was a surprise performance by John Farnham!

What Was Your First Job?

My first paid job was at Joe’s Pizza in Bunbury when I was 14. I got to take a free pizza home every week which my family definitely loved me for!

What Did You Career Pathway Look Like?

I studied a Bachelor of Arts (Communication Studies) at the University of Western Australia. Originally, I wanted to be a journalist. But after just one semester I decided that career path probably wasn’t for me. I spent several years in corporate communications and now my career path is diverging again!  For me, it really came down to what I am truly passionate about, which has always been helping people and striving to have a positive impact wherever I go.

What Advice Would You Give To Someone Who Wants To Work In A Startup Or Be A Sidekick?

Be prepared to give anything a go! At Sidekicker, you never know what might get thrown your way, so embrace challenges with a smile and appreciate the good things, no matter how small they may be.

Why Do You Love What You Do?

I work in an environment where achievement is celebrated and development is encouraged. It’s incredibly refreshing. I also work with people who are just as passionate as I am to see Sidekicker succeed.
