Our Sidekick community is made up of people from all walks of life. Their backgrounds, their passions and their stories are part of what makes them so good at what they do. Sandra is one of the coolest hospitality and events Sidekicks, see why she loves what she does here.
Where were you working before you started Sidekicking?
I used to live in Edinburgh, Scotland and worked in a Whisky Society Club. I learnt so much about the drink I adore!
Tell us something unique about yourself
I have been travelling in Asia for the past 8 months. I learnt a lot about other cultures, history and what is important to me. I volunteer in my travels, teaching English in small villages and I love working with the kids.
I am also crazy about cooking, I love experimenting in both techniques and recipes.
What was your first Sidekicking gig?
It was a small wedding reception. The whole event was so beautiful and the venue was outstanding. I got so inspired by the way everything was decorated. I have kept a few ideas in my mind so I can be inspired when decorating my own space.
Coolest thing you’ve done at Sidekicker
I joined Sidekicker just over 2 months ago so I cannot wait to see what other cool things I get to do. At the moment, the coolest thing I have done is work at the Night Noodle Markets in Brisbane. The atmosphere was amazing, I met so many people and even got to crack open a coconut. At the end of the festival, Rob from Canvas Events organised a staff party for all of us – it was tough to say goodbye to everyone!
What was your first job?
When I was a teenager, I was working at my uncle’s Harley Davidson workshop. I used to ride so many of them and that made me very happy.
What do you hope to do in the future?
I’m hoping to be a busy person, converting my ideas into reality. I want to own a business that helps others.
Apart from that, whatever the future brings, I’ll take it and make something cool with it.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
I wanted to be a professional photographer but I decided to keep it only as my hobby.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone who wants to be a Sidekick?
Go for it and you will not regret it! You will have chance to see the coolest places in Brisbane and meet amazing people.
Don’t give up and keep applying!
Why do you love what you do?
I love what I do because I’m always on the go. I like to be busy and travel around. I love to challenge myself and Sidekicker helps me a lot with that as I’m always meeting new people, going to new places and doing different jobs. This means I never know what’s ahead and that is so exciting!
