Sidekicker raises $10m, solidifying its position as ANZ's leading tech-based staffing solution

July 3, 2020

  • Sidekicker raises AUD$10M round, from backing partner SEEK.
  • More than 1.2 million hours of work was facilitated through Sidekicker over the past year.
  • Funds directed toward supporting future growth and expansion.

Technology-based contingent staffing company Sidekicker has raised AUD$10 million in funding from SEEK, global leader in building and scaling online employment marketplaces.

The company provides a technology platform for companies hiring and managing contingent–namely temporary and casual–workforces. Since starting in Melbourne in 2013, Sidekicker has grown rapidly, offering both hirers and workers a superior experience when participating in casual and temporary employment.

Using technology to improve a once highly manual process, businesses can now easily and cost-effectively connect with an engaged and high-quality skilled workforce. Sidekicker’s workforce is able to access flexible work opportunities with some of the world’s most exciting brands, and take control of their work life through a free mobile app.

Tom Amos and co-founder Jacqui Bull have taken the startup from humble beginnings in Melbourne, to what is now one of ANZ’s fastest growing companies with 75 full-time staff located across offices in every major city.

Sidekicker has been growing by 105% each year, in both revenue and staff, and currently provides work opportunities to over 10,000 casual workers at over 4,000 organisations across Australia and New Zealand, including some of the world’s most influential companies, such as Uber, AirBnB and Rydges Hotels.

Tom Amos, CEO and Co-founder at Sidekicker said that the capital will enable them to pursue exciting opportunities to expand their footprint and continue to advance its technology.

Tom adds, “We’ve only just started to scratch the surface of achieving our goal of empowering businesses and workers to reach their full potential.

Staffing is a core part of every business, and casual work–whether it be a uni student seeking flexible work around their studies, a parent re-entering the workforce, or someone trying something new before committing to a company or role full time–is something that most people will participate in various ways throughout their life.

We have built a platform that gives workers an easy way to access casual work as and when they choose, and as their employer are deeply committed to providing them with the best experience during their time working for us–we provide free training and upskilling opportunities in our local onboarding centres, free access to online training programs, and actively help Sidekicks through our Sidekicker Resume Program when they’re ready to seek permanent employment elsewhere.

On the business side, our unique 2-way rating and review system drives accountability and reliability of staff, and our transparent platform provides businesses the ability to choose their ideal workers.

Our growing footprint is evidence of the widespread need we are addressing for both sides of the marketplace, and this additional funding will bring us one step closer to empowering everyone that chooses to participate in the casual and temporary employment market.”

Tom Amos says the raise is a “great vote of confidence for Sidekicker and its mission, particularly from a partner like SEEK, one of the most transformative and influential organisations in the global employment industry.

As a team, we’re all very focused on delivering value to our users and making their lives easier and better. But the raise is certainly an opportunity to pause and reflect on how far we’ve come.

It’s a very exciting space to be in as we start redefining what it means to support flexible work in the 21st century,” says Tom Amos.
